Doorstep bags £1,500 from Tesco’s community grant scheme

We were notified in November that Doorstep had won the public vote to receive the maximum community grant from Tesco. We are extremely grateful to our local supporters who voted for us throughout July, August and September of this year by using blue tokens to vote for Doorstep.

Rising demand for essentials

Demand for emergency food has risen significantly in the last 5 years and young people are not exempt from the recent economic pressures. The rising cost of food is having an impact on what we can provide and what people are able to donate. This grant not only allows us to buy more of what we need, but we can also buy the right equipment to keep it safely stored.
Claire de Silva, Tesco’s Head of Community, said: “Tesco Community Grants help support local good causes like Doorstep and especially those projects supporting young people, those providing food, and local causes close to our colleagues’ hearts.”

Tesco Community Grants is run in partnership with community focused charity Groundwork, who has awarded grants to thousands of local community projects every year.

Tesco’s Community Grants scheme – previously Tesco Bags of Help – has already provided over £90 million to more than 40,000 projects across Britain.

Giving local projects a boost

Groundwork’s National Chief Executive, Graham Duxbury, said: “Tesco Community Grants continues to give local projects the boost they need to help their communities thrive. We are pleased to have been able to help so many local good causes over the years and look forward to seeing what community organisations can achieve in the future with the right resources.”

Funding is available to community groups and charities looking to fund local projects that bring benefits to communities. To find out more visit www.tesco.com/communitygrants.

Doorstep will receive £1,500 to enhance the existing food provision for young people and allow the purchase of a fridge freezer, extra storage and further food and toiletry supplies.

Would you like to support our work?

We need donations to help keep our food and toiletry provision running. Please consider donating so that we can continue to support young people in need.
