Introducing Our Bike Scheme: Empowering Young People, One Pedal at a Time

At Doorstep, we believe in more than just providing a roof over young people’s heads. We value fostering independence and connections between people and places.

Affordable transport for every journey

We understand that for many young people, reliable and affordable transportation can be a barrier to accessing education, employment, and even time spent with friends and family. Our bike scheme aims to break down those barriers by providing second-hand and unwanted bikes to those who need them.

Thanks to your donations, we’re able to source bikes through local recycling schemes or purchase them second hand. We use Bike Fix, a local independent cycle shop located near our Pasture Street centre, to service the bikes and purchase extras. Every donation, whether it’s a bike or a financial donation, helps us keep this scheme going. For those young people who are able to, we ask for a small contribution, creating a sense of ownership and responsibility.

Making Waves: Andy’s Swimming Challenge

Our asset coach, Andy, who oversees the scheme, isn’t just passionate about bikes – he’s also a dedicated open water swimmer. Recently, he took on a swimming challenge and raised an incredible £300, all of which goes directly towards supporting our bike scheme.

Real Stories, Real Impact

“Having a bike has made life so much easier, and quicker! I can get to college, get home on time, and it’s fun!” says Rio, who along with his girlfriend, received bikes through our scheme.

How Your Donation Makes a Difference

Your donations go a long way in transforming lives.

  • Just £40 can provide a bike
  • £15 covers a service to ensure it’s roadworthy
  • £10 secures a lock for added security
  • £5 ensures riders stay safe with proper lighting

Every pound donated is an investment in the future of our young people.

Join Us on the Journey

Whether you have a bike to donate, a few pounds to spare, or simply want to support our cause, your contribution makes a real difference. Together, we can support young people to lead an independent and settled way of life.
