Roger Beard

Chair of the Board of Trustees

Roger Beard is currently the Chair of the Doorstep Board of Trustees. Prior to retirement, Roger spent 40 years in education, beginning as a Secondary School Teacher, then as Head of Sixth Form, and later as Senior Tutor at Franklin Sixth Form College. At Franklin, he established links with several local agencies, including Doorstep, to support students needing extra assistance.

Roger’s academic qualifications include a Combined Studies Degree, a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education, and a Certificate in Basic Counselling Skills. In his later years at Franklin College, he served as Joint Manager of Student Services, managing a team of 40 Personal Tutors responsible for the welfare and progression of 800 students. He was also a member of the Senior Management Team.

In addition to his role at Doorstep, Roger is a member of the Executive Committee of the Grimsby, Cleethorpes, and District Civic Society, ensuring his retirement remains active.

Roger’s hobbies include acoustic music, DIY, and gardening.

While he does not have specific housing-related qualifications, Roger brings extensive experience in staff training, committee leadership, and pastoral work with young people. He is fully committed to supporting Doorstep’s mission and its continued success in working with young people.
